The AIR ONE is one of the more compelling personal eVTOL concepts because it is not pretending to be a mass-market air taxi first. It is selling a simpler dream: a two-seat electric aircraft that an individual might actually own.
That makes it much more interesting to me than the usual render-heavy urban air mobility pitch. But if I apply it to actually living in Issaquah, the question changes from “is this cool?” to “would this really fit my life?”
As of August 9, 2026, my answer is: exciting, promising, and still much more realistic as an enthusiast aircraft than as a practical suburban mobility tool.
What AIR Is Promising Right Now
AIR’s official site currently presents the AIR ONE as a two-seat piloted eVTOL with:
- 1 hour of flight time
- 115-knot fast cruise
- 550-pound useful load
- foldable 36-foot wingspan
- 8 independent motors
- 4 independent 74 kWh lithium-ion battery packs
- Fly-By-Intent single-stick controls
- a whole-aircraft BRS parachute system
The company also says it is pursuing FAA Light Sport Aircraft certification under the MOSAIC framework, and the current product page points to a private pilot license requirement.
One important note: the public numbers around AIR ONE are a little messy. Older videos and third-party articles often cite 155 mph top speed, 110 miles of range, and CCS fast charging. AIR’s current official page instead emphasizes 115-knot fast cruise, roughly 60 to 100 miles of range in one section, and NACS charging with a one-hour fast-charge figure. That does not make the aircraft uninteresting, but it does mean I would treat every performance claim as provisional until there is a fully certified production spec sheet.
Where the Program Actually Stands
The part that matters most is not the render. It is certification.
The FAA’s MOSAIC modernization opened the door for new LSA categories including powered-lift and electric propulsion, with the aircraft-certification portion taking effect on July 24, 2026. The FAA also already has a powered-lift operational framework in place. That is real progress.
But AIR ONE is not a mature consumer product yet. AIR’s own site says certification is still pending, and the first production batch is sold out while later buyers are on a waitlist. That puts this in the “early adopter aviation program” category, not the “buy it this fall and commute from your driveway” category.
What Changes When I Put This in Issaquah
This is where the fantasy gets more grounded.
Issaquah is close enough to major aviation infrastructure to make an aircraft hobby plausible, but not close enough to turn a personal eVTOL into a seamless lifestyle product.
1. You probably are not flying this out of your neighborhood
Issaquah does have private heliports in the FAA database, but that is very different from having a public eVTOL ecosystem. For a normal owner, the realistic operating world would be nearby public-use aviation facilities like Renton Municipal or Boeing Field, not casually lifting off from a residential lot.
The garage-storage part of the AIR ONE pitch feels more believable than the “leave from home whenever you want” part.
2. The airspace around Seattle is not simple
Boeing Field’s FAA page explicitly notes that BFI sits in Class D airspace underneath Seattle Class B, and that there is limited room for alternate VFR routing because of the relationship between BFI and SEA airspace. That matters.
If I lived in Issaquah, I would assume any serious use of a personal eVTOL would happen inside a fairly controlled, training-heavy, procedure-heavy operating environment. This is not wide-open desert test flying. This is the Seattle metro airspace system.
3. Washington is planning for vertiports, but planning is not deployment
WSDOT has already published a Vertiports Land Use Compatibility Supplement and broader advanced air mobility planning material. That is a good sign. It means Washington is not asleep on the topic.
But it also tells me the region is still in the planning stage. Land-use compatibility guidance is what you publish before widespread infrastructure exists. So if I were imagining a near-term Issaquah-to-South Lake Union eVTOL routine, I would dial that expectation way down.
4. Western Washington weather is a real constraint
Even without getting deep into regulations, the practical reality is obvious: Western Washington gives you low ceilings, rain, gray winter days, and a lot of terrain nearby. That makes a personal aircraft less like a car replacement and more like a specialized vehicle that works best when weather, daylight, route, and operating conditions all line up.
For Issaquah specifically, that means the AIR ONE looks much stronger as a recreational machine for selected good-weather flying than as a dependable everyday mobility tool.
My Practical Take for Issaquah
If I lived in Issaquah and had the money, I would think about the AIR ONE in one of two ways.
Best-case framing
It could become:
- a very high-end aviation hobby platform
- a weekend scenic aircraft
- a short-hop personal aircraft for carefully planned flights
- an early seat in a category that might become much more useful over the next decade
Bad framing
It is probably not, at least yet:
- a true suburban commuter vehicle
- a driveway-to-downtown mobility hack
- a practical replacement for a car in the Seattle area
- a mature buy-now product with stable final specs
Bottom Line
I like the AIR ONE more the moment I stop pretending it is a flying Tesla and start treating it like a next-generation personal aircraft.
From Issaquah, that distinction matters a lot.
You are close enough to real aviation infrastructure to make something like this interesting. But you are also in complex airspace, in a weather-challenged region, and in a state that is still building the planning framework for advanced air mobility. So for me, the AIR ONE does not yet read as “daily transportation.” It reads as “ambitious recreational aviation with a possible path to broader usefulness later.”
That is still exciting. It is just a different kind of exciting than the headline suggests.
